Ingredients

For the Cowboy Candy
  • 1 lb jalapeño peppers sliced
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper adjust to taste
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Equipment

  • Medium Saucepan
  • Sterilized Jars

Method

  1. Step 1: Put on gloves to protect your hands from jalapeños. Slice them into rings and set aside.
  2. Step 2: In a medium saucepan, mix together granulated sugar, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, turmeric, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves.
  3. Step 3: Add sliced jalapeños to the syrup. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Step 4: Remove saucepan from heat. Use a slotted spoon to transfer jalapeño slices into sterilized jars, leaving space at the top. Pour syrup over jalapeños until fully submerged.
  5. Step 5: Seal jars while still hot. Let cool to room temperature, then store in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours before enjoying.
  6. Step 6: Enjoy Texas Cowboy Candy as a spicy snack, topping for burgers, or addition to a cheese board.

Notes

Store jars in the refrigerator for up to a month. The flavors meld beautifully after 24 hours.
