Ingredients

  • ½ jar water room temperature, fills half the jar
  • to fill jar vegetable oil fill jar nearly full, leaving space at top
  • few drops blue food coloring
  • optional glitter for sparkle effect
  • small piece cotton or sponge to act as clouds, floats on top of oil

Equipment

  • Clear Glass Jar
  • Lid
  • Flashlight (optional)

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Fill your jar halfway with room temperature water.
  2. Step 2: Pour vegetable oil into the jar until it’s nearly full, leaving some space at the top.
  3. Step 3: Add a few drops of blue food coloring to the water layer. It may not blend immediately.
  4. Step 4: Sprinkle in glitter if desired for extra sparkle.
  5. Step 5: Place a small piece of cotton or sponge on top of the oil layer to represent clouds.
  6. Step 6: Seal the jar with the lid and shake gently to mix the contents and watch the storm form.
  7. Step 7: For extra effect, shine a flashlight through the jar in a dark room to highlight swirling droplets and glitter.

Notes

Use room temperature water for best results. Avoid vigorous shaking to maintain the storm effect. Store sealed at room temperature and shake gently before viewing. Swap vegetable oil with baby or mineral oil for different effects. Add essential oils to the oil layer for scent. Try different food coloring shades or add plastic shapes for variety.
