Ingredients

For the Sloppy Joes
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey Choose your favorite protein for a comforting base.
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup ketchup The classic sticky sweetness that ties it all together.
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Adds a savory kick that elevates the flavors.
  • 1 tsp mustard Just a touch for a bit of zing.
For the Garlic Toast
  • 4 slices thick bread such as Texas toast
  • 2 tbsp butter softened
  • 1 tsp garlic powder Enhances the garlic flavor on the toast.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Because melted cheese makes everything better!
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped, for garnish

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Oven
  • Baking Sheet
  • Small Bowl

Method

  1. Step 1: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or turkey. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Step 2: Stir in the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Step 3: Add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Step 4: While the meat mixture is simmering, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with garlic powder. Spread this mixture over each slice of bread.
  5. Step 5: Place the garlic buttered bread on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  6. Step 6: Remove the bread from the oven. Spoon the meat mixture generously over each slice of toasted bread. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  7. Step 7: Return the loaded toasts to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Step 8: Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped fresh parsley. Serve immediately and enjoy!
