Ingredients

For the Beef Mixture
  • 1 lb ground beef the star of the show, providing that hearty flavor
  • 1 large onion sliced, sweet and caramelized
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup beef broth a rich base to keep everything juicy
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce for that umami punch
  • 1 tsp dried thyme a hint of earthiness
  • 1 tsp salt essential for flavor
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper a little kick to wake up your taste buds
  • 4 count hamburger buns the perfect vessel for your filling
  • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese melty, gooey goodness on top
  • 1 tbsp olive oil for sautéing the onions
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped, for garnish

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Toaster

Method

  1. Step 1: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat and set the beef aside.
  2. Step 2: In the same skillet, add olive oil and sliced onions. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the onions are soft and translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Step 3: Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet. Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  4. Step 4: While the beef mixture simmers, lightly toast the hamburger buns in a separate skillet or toaster until golden brown.
  5. Step 5: Spoon the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with shredded provolone cheese and place the top half of the bun over it.
  6. Step 6: Return the assembled Sloppy Joes to the skillet over low heat, cover, and let the cheese melt for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Step 7: Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve hot with your favorite side dishes.
