Equipment

  • Large Bowl
  • Ice Cube Tray
  • Small Bowls or Cups

Method

  1. Step 1: In a large bowl, mix 2 cups of water with 1 cup of baking soda until fully dissolved. This will create a baking soda solution. Divide the solution evenly into the compartments of an ice cube tray.
  2. Step 2: Add a few drops of different food coloring to each compartment of the ice cube tray. You can create patterns or mix colors for a fun effect.
  3. Step 3: Place the ice cube tray in the freezer and let it freeze for at least 4-6 hours or until completely solid.
  4. Step 4: Once the ice cubes are frozen, remove them from the tray and place them in small bowls or cups.
  5. Step 5: Slowly pour white vinegar over the ice cubes. Watch as the vinegar reacts with the baking soda, creating a fizzy, colorful eruption!
  6. Step 6: Try adding different amounts of vinegar to see how it affects the fizzing. You can also mix different colored ice cubes together for a vibrant display.

Notes

Ensure the baking soda is thoroughly dissolved in water to avoid any clumps in the ice cubes. Use a variety of food coloring to create a more visually stunning reaction.
