Method
- Step 1: In a shallow bowl, mix the cooled brewed coffee with coffee liqueur, if using. Set aside.
- Step 2: In a mixing bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese, heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium-high speed until soft peaks form.
- Step 3: Take each ladyfinger and briefly dip it into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them.
- Step 4: In serving cups or small glasses, start with a layer of dipped ladyfingers at the bottom. Follow with a layer of the mascarpone cream mixture. Repeat the layers until the cups are filled, finishing with a layer of the cream on top.
- Step 5: Cover the cups with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Step 6: Just before serving, dust the top of each tiramisu cup with cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings, if desired.
Notes
These cups can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. It's best when made a day ahead to let the flavors develop.
