Create Magical Bubbling Rainbow Lightning Bottles

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup water The base for our magical concoction.
  • 1 cup vegetable oil Creates the mesmerizing layers.
  • 1/2 cup clear corn syrup Helps to form distinct layers in the bottle.
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • 1 tbsp baking soda The secret ingredient for that fizzing action.
  • 1/2 cup vinegar Reacts with baking soda to create bubbles.
  • Glitter (optional)

Equipment

  • Clear bottle or container
  • Small Bowl
  • Funnel

Method
 

  1. Step 1: In a clear bottle or container, pour in 1 cup of water.
  2. Step 2: Carefully add 1 cup of vegetable oil to the water. Take a moment to watch the oil settle on top of the water.
  3. Step 3: Slowly pour in 1/2 cup of clear corn syrup to create a distinct layer beneath the oil.
  4. Step 4: Add a few drops of different food coloring to the bottle.
  5. Step 5: In a separate small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 1/2 cup of vinegar to create that bubbling reaction.
  6. Step 6: Carefully pour the vinegar and baking soda mixture into the bottle with the layered ingredients.
  7. Step 7: If desired, sprinkle in some glitter for a magical effect.
  8. Step 8: Observe the bubbling and colorful reactions as the ingredients interact.

Notes

While these bottles are best enjoyed fresh, you can store them in a cool, dry place if you want to save them for later. Just remember that the bubbling reaction is temporary.
