  • 1 cup granulated sugar Adds sweetness to the mix.
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder Helps the cobbler rise.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Balances the sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder The star ingredient for that rich chocolate flavor.
  • 1 cup milk Keeps the batter moist.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted, adds richness.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Enhances the flavor.
  • 1 cup brown sugar For a lovely caramel-like sweetness.
  • 1.5 cups hot water Creates a luscious sauce beneath the cobbler.
Optional
  • whipped cream or ice cream

Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • 9x13-inch Baking Dish
  • Oven

Method

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. Step 3: Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until the mixture is well combined and smooth.
  4. Step 4: Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  5. Step 5: In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar with a bit more cocoa powder. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter in the baking dish.
  6. Step 6: Carefully pour the hot water over the entire dish. Do not stir; this will create a delicious sauce on the bottom.
  7. Step 7: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is set but the center is still slightly gooey.
  8. Step 8: Allow the cobbler to cool for a few minutes before serving. Top with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.

Notes

If you have any leftovers (which is unlikely!), store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave for a few seconds before enjoying again.
