Method
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Step 3: Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Step 4: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Step 5: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Step 6: Fold in the chocolate chips, dried cherries, and walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Step 7: Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Step 8: Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underbaked; they will firm up as they cool.
- Step 9: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
