Ingredients

For the Cake
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups peeled and chopped apples such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
For the Glaze
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Bundt Pan
  • Medium bowl
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Saucepan

Method

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a Bundt pan to ensure easy release.
  2. Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set this aside for later.
  3. Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until it’s light and fluffy.
  4. Step 4: Add the eggs one at a time, making sure to mix well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Step 5: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Start and end with the dry ingredients.
  6. Step 6: Gently fold in the chopped apples.
  7. Step 7: Pour the batter into your prepared Bundt pan and smooth the top. Bake for 50-60 minutes.
  8. Step 8: While the cake is baking, prepare the glaze. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar and butter. Stir until melted and smooth, then add the heavy cream and bring to a simmer.
  9. Step 9: Once the cake is done, allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Step 10: Drizzle the warm glaze over the cooled cake before serving.
