- Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients: Wash and pat dry basil leaves, measure out Parmesan cheese, olive oil, pine nuts, and garlic.
- Step 2: Toast the Pine Nuts: In a small skillet over medium heat, lightly toast the pine nuts until golden brown, stirring frequently. Allow them to cool.
- Step 3: Blend the Ingredients: In a food processor, combine the basil leaves, toasted pine nuts, grated Parmesan cheese, and minced garlic. Pulse until finely chopped.
- Step 4: Incorporate Olive Oil: With the food processor running, drizzle in the olive oil until desired consistency is reached.
- Step 5: Season the Pesto: Taste and add salt, pepper, and lemon juice if desired. Blend briefly to combine.
- Step 6: Store or Serve: Use immediately or transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate. Drizzle olive oil on top to prevent browning.
Notes
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze in ice cube trays.
